The panoramic radiography is important during the first visit to detect caries and lesions
At the first appointment a clinical examination is performed that is based on direct observation of the patient’s mouth. Thus, it is possible to register caries and lesions.
However, for a good diagnosis we should have a panoramic radiograph to get an internal view of the teeth as well as the surrounding structures.
Thus, there are several cases of lesions in the oral cavity that do not cause pain, whether they are benign or malignant. They may go unnoticed and must be removed, thus highlighting the importance of the panoramic radiograph.
The lack of this radiography can trigger a misdiagnosis. Certainly due to lack of information and make it difficult to lead to a good treatment plan.
Main indications for panoramic radiography:
- Evaluation of impacted teeth;
- Detection of diseases, lesions and conditions of the jaws;
- Examination of the extent of broad lesions;
- Evaluation of trauma;
- Preoperative planning of surgeries;
- Evaluation of eruption patterns, growth and development;
- Observation of periodontal bone support;
- Evaluation of third molars (wisdom teeth);
Finally, this type of exam is quite safe with the new X-ray devices. This is because they emit a low amount of radiation (an amount that is not harmful to health).
However, in case of pregnancy, the patient must notify Clínica Arriaga as the exam is performed with lead protection.
